NDVI BRITISH COLUMBIA
This NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) map of British Columbia, Canada, provides a detailed and insightful representation of the vegetation health and density across the province. NDVI values range from -1 to +1, where higher values indicate high levels of vegetation, and lower values indicate low to no levels of vegetation (e.g., mountains, water, urban areas. I chose shades of green, yellow and white for this map, where green represents the highest level of vegetation and white represents the very low and no levels of vegetation.
I used Google Earth Engine to create this map. The map uses satellite imagery that was captured between the first of January 2017 and 2020 to calculate NDVI values, which indicate the presence and condition of vegetation. The data was derived from the Google Earth Engine Open Catalogue.
One can easily spot that the majority of the landscape in British Columbia reveals high levels of vegetation. This may be due to the coastal rainforest and large areas of nature. However, there are also clear spots of little to no vegetation. These areas may include mountainous regions and bodies of water. ยด
